Workers share in $537,408 of unpaid entitlements! print page

Six Australian Services Union members at the Port of Echuca were among the deserved 32 past and present employees to share in the $537,408 of unpaid entitlements from Campaspe Shire.

The members – including delegate Barry How – received significant payouts after it was revealed that workers were not paid correctly for overtime over a period dating back to 2001.

ASU organiser Cameron Wright praised the Shire for their cooperation after the error was noticed.

“I was very pleased that once the problem was found, the Shire worked closely with the ASU to rectify a mistake that dating back from long ago. I think our members deserve a pat on the back. Most of them have experienced some tough times with their employment conditions over the last few years, so this is certainly a pleasing result for them. The time spent working overtime and weekends has finally paid off,” said Cameron.

Delegate Barry How is pleased that employees received what the rightly deserved.

“We first knew of the discrepancy about 10 years ago, so we are very happy that it is all done and dusted. It took a while, but the Shire worked through it pretty well. They were very calm and went out of their way to help us with it. The advice were received from the ASU was great, so it was good to get the result we were after.”
