The ASU has started our campaign called Recover our Rights to scrap the Local Government Inspectorate (LGI). The LGI is a real threat to all council workers, our families and friends.

At the recent ASU State Conference, delegates unanimously endorsed resolutions to campaign against the State Government’s recently-formed Local Government Inspectorate (LGI), where inspectors have extreme powers of search and interrogation.

The resolutions, listed below, clearly outline the intentions of the ASU. We will campaign against these draconian laws, which clearly put our members at risk of a jail term or massive fines.

Resolution 1:

“This ASU delegates’ conference   recognises that the Local Government Inspectorate will undermine the rights of ASU members, non-members, our family, friends and the wider community.”

Resolution 2:
“This ASU delegates conference endorses an ASU campaign to

  •  inform members, non-members,  our family, friends and the wider community about the Local Government Inspectorate; and
  • Abolish the LGI.”

Look out for our new campaign website to follow shortly.

For more information about this campaign you can contact me or Richard Duffy our Research and Policy Officer on 0425 722 548.

I look forward to your involvement in this important campaign - if we stand together we will win.
